CEO CORNER
THE FUTURE IS OURS The Power of Us

Serena Bumpus, DNP, RN, NEA-BC
CEO, Texas Nurses Association
WHAT DOES THE POWER OF US MEAN TO YOU? For me, it’s the unwavering belief that we are stronger together, it’s more than just a phrase, it’s the engine that propels the nursing profession forward, it shapes us and fuels our future. It is the essence of who we are—not just as professionals, but as a collective force.
At its core, The Power of Us is not about any single person, company, or idea. It’s about the strength that comes from working together. It’s about what we unlock when we collaborate instead of compete, when we share knowledge instead of guarding it, and when we lift each other up rather than going at it alone.
As the CEO of Texas Nurses Association, I have the privilege of witnessing this power every day. I see it when members from across the state come together in our committees. I see it when I talk with nursing students. I see it in the relationships formed between seasoned nurses and the newly graduated nurse bringing fresh energy and perspective into the profession. I witnessed it in our advocacy efforts, when over 600 nurses joined us in Austin for Nurse Day at the Capitol. Our unified voices carried farther than any one voice ever could that day.

More than 600 nurses from across Texas came together on March 3-4 for this year’s Nurse Day at the Capitol. During the two-day event, nurses were briefed on the nursing legislative agenda to prepare them for their visits with individual legislators.
Whether you are a long-time member of TNA or new to the association, I invite you to step into that power. Attend our Annual Conference in June. Join a committee. Start a conversation. Become a mentor. Become a mentee. Share your knowledge. Celebrate one another. Lean in. Because when we act together, there is nothing we cannot heal, build, or transform. That is The Power of Us!

On Day One, nurses received an overview of the public health landscape in Texas. Day Two started with a walk to the Capitol for legislative visits.
This year, our theme, The Power of Us, is more than a slogan. It’s a rallying cry! It’s a reminder that your voice matters, your work matters, and when we bring it all together, we matter more than ever.
In a world that often pulls us toward division and isolation, we must choose connection. In a time of rapid change, we must lean on the collective wisdom of our peers. In the face of uncertainty, we must stand together – stronger, smarter, and more capable than we’ve ever been.
That’s the power of our nursing community. That’s the power of you. And that’s The Power of Us.
Whether you are a long-time member of TNA or new to the association, I invite you to step into that power. Attend our Annual Conference in June. Join a committee. Start a conversation.
