Why the Texas Nurses Foundation Matters

As nurses, we are driven by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of others. We give our all—from the bedside, the classroom, behind the scenes, in schools, clinics, communities, and hospitals. While the Texas Nurses Association (TNA) works tirelessly to advance our profession through advocacy, policy, and leadership, the Texas Nurses Foundation (TNF) plays an equally vital, yet distinct, role: we are the heart of giving for Texas nurses.

It’s important to understand the difference between TNA and TNF. The TNA is our professional membership association, a 501(c)6 focused on representation, regulation, and advocacy. The Foundation on the other hand, is our charitable arm. We are the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that exists solely to support Texas nurses and the nursing profession through scholarships, research grants, professional development, and health and wellbeing. The TNF is not limited to membership of TNA, but all Texas nurses. Why is this distinction important? Because advocacy and action are only part of the picture. Nurses also need resources, resilience, and support—especially in times of crisis or transition. That’s where TNF steps in. And that’s why we need your help.

When you donate to the Texas Nurses Foundation, you are directly investing in the future of nursing in Texas. You are helping a nursing student stay in school through a scholarship. You are supporting innovative policy development and education. You are providing emergency assistance to a nurse facing hardship—or helping a fellow nurse reclaim their career and their life.

Here are just a few additional ways TNF makes a difference:

Scholarships and Education: Each year, TNF awards scholarships to nurses and nursing students across Texas, helping ease financial burdens and supporting their path to licensure and career development.

Disaster Relief: When crises strike, from hurricanes to pandemics, TNF provides timely support to nurses affected with Care for the Caregiver, helping them recover and continue their critical work.

Professional Development: Through funding programs and continuing education, like the Clair B. Jordan Endowment for Health Policy, TNF empowers nurses to grow as leaders, educators, and advocates in their fields. The endowment supports programs that prepare nurses to lead in legislative, regulatory, and organizational arenas—ensuring our perspective is heard where it matters most.

Mental Health and Wellness: From wellness initiatives to recovery support, TNF is committed to the holistic health of nurses throughout their careers. For more than 35 years, TPAPN has been a lifeline for nurses experiencing substance use and mental health issues.

None of this is possible without the generosity of our nursing community and supporters. Every dollar makes a difference. Whether it’s a one-time gift, a recurring donation, or attending the Foundation Gala, your contribution to the Foundation directly uplifts the nursing profession and helps ensure a healthier, stronger Texas.

As President of the Texas Nurses Foundation, I invite you to join us. Let’s build a future where every nurse has the opportunity to thrive—where compassion is matched with support, and where giving becomes a legacy.

Give today. Empower tomorrow. TN
