TNA PRESIDENT'S NOTE
TEXAS NURSES ASSOCIATION
Thank You
Amy McCarthy DNP, RNC-MNN, NE-BC, CENP
President, Texas Nurses Association
HELLO TEXAS NURSES!
This spring has been such a fun journey across our state—from Brownsville and Corpus Christi to Tyler and Longview, to Lubbock, and so many places in between. Each visit has been an opportunity to listen, to learn, and to connect. I’ve seen firsthand the challenges you face, the resilience you bring, and the deep commitment you have to your patients and communities. It has been incredibly energizing, and I am grateful for all that you have shared with me along the way.
It’s hard to believe that two years have passed since I first wrote to you as TNA President. As my term comes to a close in June, I want to take a moment to simply say thank you.
When I stepped into this role, I knew I would learn a great deal—but what excited me most was the chance to work alongside nurses across Texas, to elevate your voices, and to celebrate the innovation and strength that define our profession. My goal was to help build a more inclusive and welcoming association—one that truly reflects the diversity, passion, and spirit of Texas nurses. Over these past two years, I’ve seen that vision come to life. New faces have joined, more voices have stepped forward, and more nurses have taken on leadership roles than ever before. I hope you feel the momentum and energy that now exists across this association.
When I was recently asked about the legacy I hope to leave, my answer was simple: that every nurse feels they belong. That when you walk into your district meetings or attend a TNA event, you see yourself reflected and know that your voice matters. My proudest accomplishment is not a single initiative—it is seeing so many of you step into your power, engage more deeply, and recognize the impact you can have on healthcare across our state.
It has been incredibly energizing, and I am grateful for all that you have shared with me along the way.
One moment that captures this for me was Nurses Day at the Capitol in 2025. Standing among 600 nurses—more than 60% attending for the first time—was unforgettable. Watching you walk into the Capitol, meet with legislators, and advocate with confidence and purpose was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together.
I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Kit Bredimus as your next President. I know he will continue to build on this momentum and lead TNA into an even stronger future.
It has been the honor and privilege to serve as your President — to lead alongside you, and to learn from all of you. You have inspired me. You have reminded me of the joy that comes from nursing, and I cannot thank you enough for that.
I have always believed that the future of nursing in Texas is bright—and today, I believe that more than ever. Thank you for the opportunity of a lifetime. I look forward to continuing to advocate alongside you and to celebrate the incredible work you do every day to strengthen healthcare across our state. TN
