IT IS WITH IMMENSE PRIDE AND GRATITUDE that we celebrate a remarkable milestone—the 100th anniversary of Texas Nursing magazine. For a century, this publication has been more than just a magazine; it has been a trusted voice, a source of inspiration, and a powerful connector for nurses across our great state.
When Texas Nursing first launched in 1925 as the Texas Nurses Bulletin, the world of healthcare looked very different. Nurses were already the backbone of patient care, but the profession faced challenges in recognition, resources, and representation. This magazine became a beacon, a platform to share knowledge, advocate for progress, and unite nurses in a common mission: empowering and advancing the profession. Over the decades, it chronicled our triumphs, our struggles, and our unwavering commitment to excellence.
Today, as we reflect on 100 years of stories, we honor the generations of nurses who paved the way for the vibrant, dynamic profession we know today. Their courage and resilience remind us that nursing is not just a career, it is a profession that demands presence, a seat at all tables healthcare decisions are made, and respect. Through wars, pandemics, technological revolutions, and societal change, nurses have stood at the forefront, delivering compassionate care and driving innovation. Texas Nursing has captured these moments, ensuring that the voices of nurses are heard and celebrated.
This centennial is not only a tribute to the past but a promise for the future. Nursing continues to evolve at an extraordinary pace. From telehealth to advanced practice roles, from policy and advocacy to leadership in health equity and innovative solutions, nurses are shaping the future of healthcare in profound ways. As we look ahead, Texas Nursing will remain a vital resource—amplifying your stories, sharing best practices, and fostering dialogue that strengthens our profession.
I want to express my deepest appreciation to every nurse who has contributed to this legacy. Whether you wrote an article, shared your expertise, or simply read and applied the insights within the pages of this publication, you have helped build a community rooted in knowledge and compassion. Thank you for your dedication to excellence and your commitment to telling the stories that matter.
As we celebrate this historic milestone, let us recommit ourselves to the values that have guided us for 100 years: respect, integrity, excellence, diversity and courage. Together, we will continue to elevate nursing, empower our colleagues, and inspire the next generation to carry this torch forward.
Here’s to the past, present, and future of Texas nursing—and to the next century of progress and purpose. TN
