TNF PRESIDENT'S NOTE

TEXAS NURSES FOUNDATION

The Year Ahead for TNF

Kristin Starnes-Ott, PhD, CRNA, FAANA, FNAP

President, Texas Nurses Foundation

I am incredibly honored and excited to serve as the Texas Nurses Foundation President for 2025-2026.

I would like to share where I see the Texas Nurses Foundation (TNF) of the future. Over the past several years, we’ve experienced transformational growth and thanks to the hard work and leadership of the previous TNF board, laid the groundwork for a stronger, more inclusive, and more innovative TNF.

A bit about myself……I currently serve as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston’s School of Nursing. I have had the distinct privilege during my career to serve in several clinical, academic, and administrative roles. I have focused much of my career thus far on advancing clinical practice and scholarship through innovative teaching methods, mentoring emerging nurse leaders, and research contributions to shape evidence-based nursing care. Each role I have held has enriched my understanding of what nursing “is” and how we as nurses truly impact our communities and health outcomes.

I am looking forward to collaborating with the outstanding members of this year’s TNF Board to evaluate our strengths as a foundation and how we can leverage these strengths to build stronger programming and initiatives to support the nurses of Texas. I envision numerous opportunities to engage with Texas nurses we aim to serve by garnering your feedback on what types of programming or initiatives would support you and your important work whether it be at the bedside, the classroom or boardroom.

TNF Initiatives for 2026

The Texas Nurses Foundation (TNF) stands at the forefront of advancing nursing and improving health outcomes across the state. As we approach 2026, our commitment to supporting nurses, promoting education, and advocating for the well-being of all Texans remains stronger than ever. The coming year presents both opportunities and challenges. During this upcoming year, the TNF Board will embark on strategic planning with the goal of moving our mission of improving the health of Texans through charitable initiatives including those that advance nursing practice, education, research, and leadership onward. TNF is now positioned to have even greater impact to facilitate ways for nurses to pursue their interests and serve Texans through creative output.

This important planning work will prepare us with a comprehensive strategic road map to ensure continued progress and impactful results.

Celebrating Achievements

Congratulations to Texas Nursing Magazine as it celebrates its 100th anniversary. As the charitable arm of the Texas Nurses Association (TNA), TNF would like to join TNA to honor the dedication, resilience, and compassion of Texas nurses—past, present, and future. This milestone is not only a reflection of the association’s rich history but also a testament to the enduring value of nursing in Texas. The next century promises new opportunities and challenges, and TNF remains committed to working alongside TNA in advancing the profession, supporting nurses, and improving the health of all Texans.

Looking Forward

The year ahead promises to be a period of growth, advocacy, and meaningful engagement for TNF. By focusing on education, policy, wellness, research, and community outreach, TNF and the members of TNF Board will continue to invest in nurses and improve health outcomes for all Texans. Together, we will continue to build a stronger, healthier future for our state. TN
