Setting the Stage for a Successful New Year

Serena Bumpus, DNP, RN, NEA-BC
CEO, Texas Nurses Association
AS THE CALENDAR TURNS TO A NEW YEAR, it brings a unique opportunity to look forward and set our sights on where we want to go. For me, the start of the new year is not about resolutions but about commitments. As an organization, it’s about aligning our commitments with our purpose. It’s a time to renew our dedication to the mission that binds us together and to be intentional about driving our impact forward.
Here are a few commitments that reflect the aspirations I hold for Texas Nurses Association and the members we serve.
1. Deepen Member Engagement
Our strength as an organization and as a profession lies in the passion and involvement of our members. In 2025, we aspire to create even more opportunities for connections, collaboration, and engagement. From enhancing our events such as Nurse Day at the Capital and our Annual Conference to expanding digital tools, like a new App for networking and learning, we aim to make every member feel valued and supported in their professional journey.
2. Strengthen Advocacy Efforts
As a collective voice for Texas nurses, we have a responsibility to advocate for policies and initiatives that advance the nursing profession. This year, we will focus on amplifying your voices, engaging stakeholders, and ensuring our advocacy efforts reflect the diverse perspectives of our membership. Together, we can drive meaningful change.
3. Foster Innovation
In today’s world, we are required to think creatively and act boldly. In 2025, we commit to exploring innovative ways to serve our members and achieve our goals. We will embrace change through piloting new programs, reimagining longstanding traditions and the exploration of new technologies with optimism and purpose.
4. Prioritize Inclusivity and Equity
We are committed to creating an organization where everyone feels a sense of belonging. This year, we will continue to invest in initiatives that promote relentless inclusion across all levels of our work. Our members come from all backgrounds, and it is our responsibility to ensure that all are valued.
5. Celebrating Achievements
Thinking futuristically is one of my strengths and it can be easy to constantly focus on what lies ahead. However, it’s equally important to celebrate how far we’ve come. This year, we will be more purposeful in taking the time to celebrate the accomplishments of our members and healthcare community. The dedication of our members deserves to be recognized and shared as inspiration for all.
I look forward to a year of growth, connection and impact. Together, we will achieve remarkable things for Texas nurses. This year holds immense potential for each of us. Let’s make it a year of bold steps, courageous decisions, and impactful actions—for our patients and for our profession! Thank you for your unwavering dedication and for being such an important part of our nursing community. Here’s to a year filled with growth, discovery, and success for Texas Nurses! TN
